I (Kait) started off 2021 with the goal in mind to read 150 books by the end of the year. Last month I tallied up all the books I read, including a couple eBooks, and the total came out to 177. (This does not count the numerous children books I read these last couple of months…and I will talk about those down below in this post.) Now I would love to list every single book I read on this post, but that would take a while and I do not know if I have a word limit! But I will try my best to list some of my favorites below for you!
1. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
2. The Last Train to London by Meg Waite Clayton
3. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
4. Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano
5. Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
6. Home Front by Kristin Hannah
7. Under the Tulip Tree by Michelle Shocklee
8. Worship by John MacArthur
9. In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park
10. Other People’s Children by R.J. Hoffman
11. Fifty Words for Rain by Asha Lemmie
12. The True Tails of Baker and Taylor by Jan Louch
13. The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See
14. Operation Broken Reed by Lt. Col. Arthur L. Boyd
15. Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner
Now, I sadly do read books that I would not recommend to others. But this past year I read some books that I am actually going to warn you to not read. In this case, the books I will address are children’s books. (These I came across while volunteering at the library here.) These books include LGBTQ topics and content that as a Christian, I would not want my kids to read. So, if you have young children, please make sure that you are aware of these books:
1. Woke Baby by Mahogany L. Browne
2. Get Up, Stand Up by Cedella Marley
3. Born Ready: the True Story of a Boy Named Penelope
4. Uncle Bobby’s Wedding by Sarah S. Brannen
5. What are Your Words by Katherine Locke
6. Where Happiness Begins by Eva Eland
7. Tale of the Shadow King by Daniel Haack
My reading goal for this new year is the same, 150 books. I will be quite busy with school and events here on base, including a couple Bible studies, so I have no idea how many books I will be able to read this year!
